2020 Virtual Solo Piping Competition

We are happy to announce a Solo Piping Competition to take place the day originally scheduled for the Games. Competitors will play for judges via online videoconferencing; videos of the top-ranked players in each level will be shared later with the public.

Rules
- There will be a maximum of 10 competitors per level. Quebec-based pipers will be given priority registration, followed by Ottawa-based pipers.
- All competitors must wear Highland attire: headdress, shirt, kilt, waist belt, sporran, hose and shoes, as a minimum. (Trews are an acceptable alternative.)
- The competition will take place on the Zoom videoconferencing platform. All competitors must have access to a mobile device, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone in order to participate. All competitors must be as visible as possible for the judge.
- Assigned competition times will given a few days prior to the event. Failure to log in on time may result in disqualification. Competitors will be queued in a “waiting room” until it is their turn to perform.
- A maximum of 5 minutes will be allotted for final tuning.
- All contest entries will be video recorded; 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries will be uploaded later for public viewing on the Montreal Highland Games website (competitors will be asked by the judge to affirm their consent immediately before the competition begins).
Prizes
The 1st place winner in each level will receive a McCallum practice chanter (PC9, blackwood bottom and plastic top). Gift certificates for local establishments will be awarded to the 2nd and 3rd place winners.
